Does anyone know if they made a 98 with peep sights? If so, could you post pix if you have them? I'm looking at buying one of the Norinco 98 look-alike .22's and would like to do something about the sights, either by going to peeps or a scope, but would like to keep the look original as much as possible. That's why the scope presents a bit of a problem, because the replica sniper scopes can be quite pricey. I'm looking in the airsoft sites to see if I could find something decent there.

I'll be honest - I flipped mine less than a week after I got it so I'm going on recollection here.

It's not an exact copy, so parts made for a Mauser might not fit(!??) Also, it's a .22 receiver , not a Mod.98 converted to .22 like a trainer, so a scope mount for a full sized Mauser would look a little silly...IIRC mine didn't shoot well enough to justify scoping. A fun little rifle for the $$$ but no sniper =)

The receiver is dovetailed for a scope anyway is it not?

Never seen nor heard of a peep on an issue K98. Aftermarket peep sights exist though. Look on the William's Gunsights site. http://www.williamsgunsight.com/
"...looking in the airsoft sites..." Don't bother. Scopes made for toy guns won't hold up to the recoil of even a .22. There are lots of good quality .22 scopes available.
Mind you, scoping a JW-25A might have issues with find a proper base. Give Marstar a call and ask 'em about it.

From the pics I've seen, it looks as if the rifle has the standard dovetail milled for a scope. So mounting a scope shouldn't be an issue. It's just that I would want it to look at least a bit like the 98 sniper rifle. I'll have to wait and see, I guess. The real reason i want to scope it, or use peep sights, is that my old eyes are not what they used to be.

"...looks as if the rifle has..." Doesn't say anything about 'em on Marstar's site. That's why I suggested calling them.
"...look at least a bit like the 98 sniper rifle..." It'll be scoped. That's as close as it'll get. At least you'll be able to see the targets.

You will have two choice for scope mount on a JW-25A; the "scarce" side mount Norinco makes, (made in China, I did not find any source for other manufacturers) or fit bases on the receiver top.
The bolt is asomekind of a problem and won't allow you to mount a low scope.

The one I have shoots very tight groups with Remington ammo.

BTW, the original sights su"%ks.

I have a belgium .22 98k training rifle with an issue peep sight.
