While trying to disassemble Mauser bolt assembly, accidentally unscrewed the bolt head while safety was in firing position (not in the middle). It turned about 90 degrees (a quarter) and got stocked. Can't move it and don't really want to force it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi.

I'm having a hard time visualizing your problem.

Is the firing pin and bolt sleeve apart? Is it just the safety that's stuck? Have you tried pushing the firing pin and spring into a block or hole to offload the spring tension? Hard to help without being able to see the problem

I'll try to describe what you have to do. The stricker must be pulled toward the rear of the bolt (as if it was being restricted by the trigger when in the rifle). Use what ever means you can to do this, possibly clamp the bolt body in the jaws of a padded vise and then use the shaft of a screw driver ( not the tip) to lift up on the striker, when it is forced into this position, rotate the assembly back the ninty degrees. Hope this make sense??

Thank you guys, especially pdg 300. I spent some time on the internet to avoid embarrassing myself and not ask "which one is the striker?" but found nothing on the net! My favourite website, surplusrifes.com shows full disassembly of mauser bolt with 7 components. No "striker". Could it be another name for the firing pin? If yes, I do not understand how can I push it back towards the end of the bolt. I do not have access to the firing pin! I am sorry if I come across as very un-informed, but I am trying!

I have disassemble Mauser bolts before and I am visually familiar with the components.

I just do this with my thumb personally, or Para cord.
Something about forcing a spring back with metal tools....

You have to pull back the sear, and rotate the bolt body CCW and bolt end CW.
This should bring the bolt back into the "ready"
If you do the reverse the bolt will come apart.

There is also a tiny button. What I do while storing my bolt. Hold your thumb on the sear with some force, Press the button and rotate a half click and it will uncock the spring. I'm guessing this is the stage you are at now. Bolt won't fit back in gun because the handle blocks the path.
