Hello

I'm a newbie in k98 area and plan to buy a matching k98. This is NOT my rifle. I know it's a minefield for a newbie walk into this area so I'm here for help.

It says by the seller "This appears to be an all matching K98, even the top stock piece is numbers matching on the inside. This rifle is in great shape and head spaces perfectly. Barrel is nice and shiny on the inside with some minor pitting." He asks for 2200 on this one.

Could you guys please chime in on a current value, does it worth for that much?

Thanks in advance.

Vastly insuffiecient photos. But I don’t like it. Bolt shroud and safety look wrong. It looks lightly sanded. But would need to see many more photos. A gun can be matching but if sanded, the matching part no longer really matters.

I will definitely ask for more pics, in high definition if possible. Unfortunately these are so far what I got. Thanks for the reply

Stock has been tampered with. Recoil crossbolt does not look right and you can almost see as if there is a crossbolt at the wrist of the stock. I agree with Canadian ar on the stock also being sanded.

I found the ad you're referring to an the other site, and although the seller looks legitimate, I would be very wary of dealing outside the EE, especially if you are new in the area of collectable/pricey firearms. There are a lot of scams out there, and the site in question generally very suspect --- I don't think this particular rifle/seller falls into that category, but heed the advice also re: the originality of the rifle.

Currently searching like crazy to find a decent K98 to add to my growing collection. Do any of you have any suggestions as to where to look online or even a private seller that might want to part with a decent condition K98? Thanks for your help!

Hahha that’s funny.

It is not often an original matching k98k hits the EE. 99% have issues.

Just because it is claimed to be all matching doesn’t mean a thing
Until it is proven to be all matching.
Condition appears only good and blueing has wear. Certainly not a
90% condition rifle. The asking price is not even in the league
Of a $2200 rifle. Don’t get caught up in the moment and the fact that it’s matching as it’s not the
Only rifle out there on the planet. You buy junk and when you go to sell you have a tough time selling it.
If the stock is humped with a reinforcement lug and the wood around the recoil
Lug is buggered keep looking.

Be fussy, your hard earned money is better in your pocket than overpaying for an underachieving rifle or pistol with issues! You see it all the time - overpricing- shows , internet....think of it like paying
A janitor doctors wages then reality hits!

Bring on more pics and lots of them! I hope I’m wrong but you don’t want to buy a k98 or any rifle
Without seeing the whole picture, just like having a hands on inspection.

why not just get a non matching one that will probably shoot just as good at like a quarter of the price or get an Israeli one

Yes. Firegun, if you're just looking to add a single K98k as an example of the type to your collection just look for a mechanically solid mis-match. Same could be said for SVT's and Mosin's, etc, where the high end collectable pieces are few and far between. A good mis-match will give you the chance to own a representative example for reasonable $.
