I'm in the process of fixing up an old Mauser K98. All the parts are there but it's missing the Front and rear sights.
I'm looking at getting replacements for them but I'm not entire;y sure how they attatch.
Can anyone explain to me what I need to get and how it attatches to the barrel.

As far as I gather the rear sight is set on a separate tube that slides over the barrel and is then welded on. (maybe I'm wrong) The front seat I gather is similar, I can see that there is a small pin hole drilled into the front of the barrel where thefront sight used to be nd it looks as though there used to be a wrap around the barrel of some kind.

Can anyone help me out and give me a little advice.

Thanks.

Yes, the front sight band is soldered to to barrel and the rear sight is soldered to the barrel as well. The factory used fixtures to keep both front and rear in alignment while soldering as well as directly on top dead center of the barrelled action. If you are unfamiliar with the work it would be best to take it to someone who has experience. It is easy to muck things up if you have never tried it.

hi

here is the piece for the rear view
to install must unsolder the front view
unsolder the old view back and resolder with silver solder the two views

Where would one find someone to silver solder the sights back on when I get some.

I found some markings on the gun (fab. nat. d'armes de guerre herstal-belgium) (they were covered with rust.)
If I get the sight bands is there a particular measurement I need or did all Mausers k98's follow more or less the same barrel measurements. (Im looking at getting my sights off Ebay unless someone has some complete sights they want to sell for reasonable prices.)

hi
:bigHug: for silver solder a good gunsmith replace views with proper alignment (important)
I can sell you the part if that is what you are looking for but with transportation that will get expensive.
if you can not find leaves me a PM
