I'm wondering if any body can help me finding information about this rifle I lucked into. I've always wanted a 98 and this one more or less fell into my lap.
As near as I can tell never been fired, or at least very little and is all numbers matching. It has Mauser-Werke A.G. Oberndorf A.N., 1941, and a leaf wrapped crest stamped on top of the receiver, on the barrel top it is stamped 40 si 2 on the butt plate it has brg, every where it is stamped with an eagle and swastika Wa135. It has a hardwood stock that is lightly oiled. Thanks for any info that you have to offer.

Nice find. Unlike you, I have never had any particular interest in the K98 nor any other Mausers, but if that nice an example had presented I would have snapped it up. Good to see it has found a suitable home.

A beaut!

Now prepare for the onslaught of PM's trying to get it out of your hands.

Just looking at it, I'd say it's worth $700+, but I'd seek more opinions before you sell it, if that's what you want to do.

$700? Hell, restored sporters go for $700. I would start my negotiations at $1000 & work my way up.

True. The last one up for sale fetched quite a high price... despite the fact that they spent the war in some warehouse and lack the signs of use that makes a milsurp interesting!

I have no intentions of selling this one, but your right the temptation is high when it comes to shooting it, but I won't. Thanks for the information.

Boy - I would love to have one of those. Only thing is it would be waayyy too much temptation sitting there unfired...

It actually was test fired at Oberndorf (As were all Mausers) with a proof cartridge, so unfired is not really correct. (See Firing Proof Stamped on Rifle). Probably Unissued is the Right Term.

With an All Matching Rifle in that condition, not wise to shoot it, should even one part break like a firing pin or extractor, etc, the value would drop 50% as it would be mismatched.

That's what RC K98's are for-shooters!

All good reasons why I don't plan to ever own one of these, despite the fact that the pictures have made me fall in love with it...

If I ever manage to get my hands on one of those you can count on it making many trips to the range. Value be dammed, I won't care how much its worth after I am dead & thats when it would be for sale.

Nice rifle... congratulations ... :)

If you want to compare markings and learn a lot more about what they mean, check the 182 pic photo montage of an "all correct" example in the Germany - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here) http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15
