hi!

i just want to know why i have two k98 and they have diferent rear sight ladder
one with two face graduation and the other only one face

one is a 1939 "237Code". with rear sight ladder graduation on both side

the other is a 1940 "42Code" with rear sight ladder graduation on one side

can you explain me why these two type ????

different maker ,different year, cost cuts, cut production time. etc. are the sights matched to the rifles? where are the pictures?

sorry guys no picture at this time , thanx for the info

the 1940 oberndorf is a RC but with no sign at all except for the missmatch parts and a stamped barell , hes got one sided ladder

the 1939 "237Code". has a double sided ladder that match the rifle

As the graduation on the underside did not serve any really useful purpose, they were dropped in the interests of speeding up production. This seems to have occurred in 1942. The RC ones tend to be a mix of parts of all dates.

yes that was exacly what i think they have no purpose so why bother doing that...

Well, when you're making rifles during peacetime or when it looks like you're about to take over the world, I'm sure that they thought 'why not?'

The 98K's went from absolutely wonderful cosmetically, to nice but cheaper to produce, to no-frills, to somewhat ratty as the war went on and demand increased while production capability decreased. All of them worked just fine, however.
