Sight unseen as yet, so what are the clues for a phony?I have no reason to believe that it is as I know the owner well.
If all is well,what should I be considering as a reasonable price?
 
I think an all matching K98 in excellent condition alone should be around $1000 now, maybe a bit more. With an original short side rail, I would think it would be at least 2K. One complete with scope is being sold on GunsAmerica right now for $5600 US. Be careful though, there are those selling repro SSR mounts now.

The ZF41 was only mounted on the rear sight assembly as a scout scope setup, not on the SSR mount. A 4x Zeiss Zielvier would be correct for that, though there are others, don't have my books handy right now.

As this will likely be a big investment, I would definitely get some pics of it (serials, mount, etc) and post them on the Gunboards.com K98 forum for a looksee by the experts. With all the faking going on, it would be prudent. Good luck and post pics if you get it...

I would assume in the 4-6000$ if origional. Its not like there are many that pop up for sale here in Canada that we could compare to.
