Mauser M12

I looked into buying one but I didn't like the fact that they have pressed in barrels. I did email mauser and they stated they could replace barrels at the factory but only in the same caliber. They would not tell me how much this would cost.

Realistically though, you buy it in the caliber you want, and chances are you won't ever shoot it out. Aside from that, the fit and finish are excellent. I really like the fact that when the action is closed, the bolt body closes off all avenues of ingress of dirt and debris. The action is the smoothest I've ever felt (I've compared it to Kimber, Cooper, Sauer and Sako rifles). The trigger is phenomenal, it uses standard Model 98 scope mounts, has a nice 3 position safety, oversize bolt handle (which is polymer, one of my few criticisms of the rifle), and has a detachable magazine.

Mine is a 30-06. Not the most interesting caliber, but I didn't already have one and it's versatile/easy to feed. It shoots very well. It's just the bolt handle knob, the rest is all steel.

I own a Walnut stocked M12 in 30-06, with iron sights. It handles very well, a nicely balanced rifle. The trigger is great. The action is very smooth (smoother than steyr's, heym's, sako's, etc. that I've used). Nice iron sights. Overall I really like it. The length of pull is quite long so I ended up mounting my scope a little further back on the receiver than I typically would, on a weaver rail, and I really like how it fits. Some people don't like pressed in barrels but it doesn't bother me at all.

The rest of my hunting rifles are built on mauser 98 actions and I'll be keeping them but I'll definately be keeping my M12 as well.
