Can someone tell me how rare it is to find an authentic Mauser M98? And possibly the approximate value if it is a real M98 from WWII manufactured in Nazi Germany? I read for a replica the prices range from 7000$ to 12000$ is this accurate?

Norway converted some K98ks to .30-06. Is it one of these you are wondering about?

Who told you that a replica would be $7000-$12000? That is just plain silly.

A K98 in original condition that was arsenal chambered in 30-06 would be worth between 400 and 700, depending on condition. Also it is almost certainly not an antique, as the cutoff for "antiques" is 1898 for lack of a better classification. If it is a Gew 98 that was refurbished into a k98 and then altered to 30-06 it would make it rather interesting, though not necessarily any more valuable.

If the alteration to 30-06 was done by a gunsmith away from the arsenal, the value decreases slightly depending on who's looking at it.

P.S. A good clear overall picture and clear pictures of any markings, especially on or around the reciever will get you a solid price estimate.

Yep! If you are willing to pay that price range, you can have pretty much ALL you want! :D

Someone give you pricing in Yen or Hong Kong Dollars?

Check the online auction houses for prices. Not quite the same here as there, but not all that far off.

About 5 years ago I bought an original 1934 Mauser 'banner' rifle (civilian k98 hunting gun with no bayo lug, very large Mauser logo marking on receiver ring and beautiful finish all around) for $250, I believe. These guns are much more scarce than any military issue k98's. Some idiot chopped the forestock on it sometime in the last 75 years, but it's still a beautiful gun. the forestock has been a 'to do' project for the past 5 years, lol.

That said... for $ 7k, the gun is yours. I'll even throw in some ammo and reloading dies to boot!

:D
