a friend of mine bought this mauser k98 a couples of years ago.complete wood and hardware.mismatched but no electropenciled parts.he was told by the seller that these markings were unit markings,etc....
bref,we both want to know what they mean and we don't know much about mausers at all.
I KNOW:drill ant tap the mounting scope holes on such a rifle is a sacrilege.can't change anything now.

Could be WaA63 Mauser Oberndorf, Germany 1936-1939, but other makers later on shared WaA63 also.

The 'Bird' in front of the SN is the Firing Proof.

9676 is the 9676 K98 made from 1 to 9999

The K is the K Block, went in blocks of 10,000 from a to ... z.

Is the Butt Plate Flat or Cupped?

Any Barrel Markings? Year?

Underneath the mount woud be the year as well as the code.

Here's one of the most thorough and comprehensive listings of German WaA (Waffenamt) manufacturing marks and sub-contractors codes I have ever seen. It's an invaluable tool for the serious German military firearms and militaria collector.

I think it looks like it could potentially be a nice Oberndorf. Perhaps a Code 42? Check the library for a couple of "all correct" examples of those to see if yours is marked the same.
