hello.
as a winter / retired project am planning to restore a czech made k98 from bubba look back to military dress.

ok my question what other mauser stocks could be used ? vz24? yugo stock? i am told m48 wood stocks are not interchangeable due to diff in the action itself .

looking for some thing practical NOT perfect.

any basic info most welcomed.

Yugo M48, FN M24 are out. They are the mid length (or whatever it's called) actions.
Any k98 should do, but you may be able to source the original VZ24 wood with a little bit of luck :)

What rear sight is on the bbl will determine what stock you need as the top wood is totally different and not interchangeable.

it is the k98 rear site with the lip for the short handguard made by czech -- brno with czech crest on reciever. its been drilled / bubba stocked, tapped so not collector grade just prefer the miitary look. thats my plan .

NBnagantsniper, why haven't you measured the center to center distance between the stock screws, so that we actually know what you have???

I can propbably help you out with a stock, either the short action or the standard length. I just haven't bothered to post because you're all over the place with your descriptions.

good question bearhunter...........my rifle arrives by canada post next day or 2............... then i will measure and know more, ...........from sellers photos i recieved, its a czech made k98 mauser..........the ww2 germans produced k98 in czech factorys , after ww2 the czechs continued production for a few years ( made in brno ) simply put there crest on top of reciever.

soon as it lands ill know the rest, an thanks for being patient folks !

The barrel step lengths and thicknesses on the VZ24 are different than the K98, as are the middle band locations. VZ has a longer thick middle step in the barrel and the middle band is much further to the rear. It looks like you can fit a K98 barrelled action in a VZ stock but there would be gaps and you'd have to make a fake handguard to fit. It would look like a bubba oddball, not a restoration. These days, a good full-wood VZ stock should be saved to restore a VZ.

If it's Czech made, pre occupation, there should be a Rampant Lion Crest on the receiver. Many were completely scrubbed and the crests are getting harder to find.

I just sold one with a crest, to a fellow and it had bee fitted, postwar, into a standard length, laminated stock.

To my knowledge and please, for those that know about every split hair, correct me if I'm wrong, but laminated stocks weren't made for the short, intermediate length actions, only the standard length.

When you get the rifle, PM me. I might have what you need, but you're going to have to find the metal bits.

thanks an yes this has the czech rampant crest ...........bad news it was drilled over that with 2 mount holes. parcel should arrive for me monday or tuesday an will know more then / thanks all for the info provided.
