I have a Mauser rifle mod 66, in .270 win, It was my first ,and only deer rifle, Purchased from Harves Sportin Goods, kelowna, B.C. in the Late 80,s any info would be appriciated. On the left side or the barrel - MAUSER - BAUER FRASER/MICH, and on the left side of the reciever - mauser-Werke A.G. Oberndorf a.N.Mod 66. On the right side of the Reciver is - DBP 1205 423, also the scope is a carl Zeiss DIAVARDI-D 1.5-6X. tHE Rifle is the single trigger model. Again, any info would be appreciated, thanks!!!

Porkert,I too have a Mod.66 and I love it!!Mine is in 30 06 and the only diffrence I can tell is mine has double set triggersThere is nothing on the left side of the barrel except the serial and caliber. There could be something under the quarterrib/mount...?I assume yours is a plain barrel like mine? The number on the bolt shroud has something to do with interchangable bbls. or so I"ve been told.I had mine appraised last year at Epps in Ontario at $1570.00 with some minor dings in the wood and no scope.I find this rifle very accurate for a carbine and have yet to cycle a smoother bolt :D When I find out more I"ll let ya know.. P.S. I was told this rifle was discontinued in the eighties

I ncr3eedible , swich barreled rifles!

Oldbadger had one and sold it to anoither member here last spring.
We saw someat our gunshow here this summer.

The 66 is one of the finest bolt action riflees I have ever shot, especially since it is a true swich-barreled rifle.
All that is requiered is to undo the front screew and the barel and quarter rib come off, and you put thhe other barrel on.
Don't know about barrel or parts availability however....

rebel01, rebel01, rebel01, Rebel, I agree, this is the sweetest shootin rifle I've shot, i guess thats why i own many guns, but after 15 years the 66 is still my "go to rifle" . If anyone has info on a source of barrels, or part's, i'd like to hear from you. Thank's.

You can find this stuff in the USA, usually on gunsamerica.com or other auction sites.

I used one in .243 on Roe deer and one in 8x68S on Wild Boar. They are great rifles.

1899, Thank,s for the web addrese, i need a new recoil pad, not because the .270 is a hard kicker, the original one is in bad shape and it just looks like crap on a nice rifle!

These are great rifles, I have 2 of them, both in 30-06, One is a Mannlicher stock, the other is regular. I would love to have the double set triggers, but mine are both regular. Guns america is a good site for info, you will see there the options of calibres, from what i know they were common in most north american calibres, up to 458 lott, Cabelas also sometimes has these rifles in their gun collections for sale,

Great rifles, and an especially great action,

A gunsmith should be able to make a second barrel for the Mauser 66 to match the .270 that Porkert has. A 9.3mm-06 would be a nice choice if this were my rifle. Other choices would be 8mm-06 followed by .35-06.

Undoubtablly yes, I know of more than a few 'smiths quite capable of doing the work.
However, to get a custom barrel donme for these rifles would be far more than the average fella would be able or want to spend as it also involves building the rib for the scope mounr, etc.
however, if I had one myslef I would likely spend the bucks!
