hi all
Looking for some input from any P38 aficionados. im considering buying a Mauser p38 (matching numbers). The seller is including one original magazine. But it is simply stamped "p38". do the wartime mauser mags come with any other stamps like "e359" on the walther? I cant find any info on the mausers. I dont want to be buying an aftermarket piece

Thanks

Most are marked P38 on the side. Those marked on the back spine with an eagle 135 waffen mark are from Mauser. Those with a tiny eagle 359 waffen mark and WaA706 are from Walther. Jvd marking is a contractor. Unmarked magazines are Spreewerke or sub contractor manufacture.

This is from standard catalog of military firearms

You forgot to add, that all of them would be correct for the pistol the OP is considering.

Actually only the eagle135 would be correct for the Mauser. Otherwise it is only period correct, not matching. Having said that , pretty easy to find matching mag at gun show. I may even have one, missing spring plate.

I am under the impression that they exchanged parts on a regular basis?

I have owned about 8 of these now, and all had the correct mag for manufacture. I would suspect late war maybe, but from what I have researched it was mainly finish quality that suffered. There were a bunch built post war from parts if I remember correctly.

Anyway OP mag is easy to get, value about 50$. What year, how is the finish, does it have a nice plum color, are all stamp marks crisp. What shape is the bore?

As these things can effect price. There are a couple of good fourms on p38s. But they all are us so prices are off.

All I can say is dont pay too much, just because it a ww2 item. It's not a luger
