Hello,

I have recently aquired a Chinese Mauser. The metal looks good but the wood stock has some serious cracks. There are also some bits missing where the stock and buttplate meet. Looking for some opinion here. How should I go about fixing the cracks? Epoxy? I am hoping to strength the stock so that I can shoot it at the range.

Thanks!

Research the gun. Find various parts sources Define your restoration
budget. Then proceed. I have done many 98 k rifles. It isn't cheap,
but in many cases it was worth it Parts lots used to be cheap, but not
anymore. I purchased lots of parts because you end up doing it again

Chinese Mausers are typically well used and have stock issues. Stocks for the "Chinese" Mauser's are hard to find but if it is a VZ24 they it's possible?? Take some pictures to post, it will help.

I just fixed my Spanish mauser stock wich was cracked nearly all the way through. I drilled holes following the cracks and filled those with wood glue, then I used a wood dowell fitted to the hole size to "piston" the glue in the crack. After that all you need to do is clamp the stock and wait. The next day you should be able to clean up the job. Just so you dont make the same mistake, the glue will travel about 1 to 2 cm into the crack. So you might need more than one dowell to fix a cracked wrist for exemple.
