Mauser that shoots .308 are they safe rifles to shoot?

No reason it shouldn't be. Mausers have been made in many different calibers, including .308. And 7.62x51.

There are some sxceptions where I would stick to light NATO loads, such as those based on the Mauser 91, 93 or 95 actions. Mauser 96 or Mauser 98? I wouldn't hesitate.

I have a Chilean Mauser that was re-barrelled to .308. It's a fine thing. The Carbines that were converted weren't re-barrelled, but had a chamber insert employed. These can erode away, and may cause some issues...

Otherwise, it'd be a finely designed rifle, using a popular n' effective round. Lots of 'em out there (and 30-06 too).

Yes ! I have a FR7 which was recalibered to .308 and it's based on a small ring (early version ) Mauser action. I have reloaded multiple rounds for it with no issues. For my rifle I keep the loads on the lighter side and shoot to my hearts content !

I have an Isreali 7.62 Mauser that shot badly with 308 ammo, then I slugged the bore and found it was actually .3105 like a 303. Now I shoot 303 bullets and it shoots just over 1 MOA. It's now one of my favorite rifles.
