Working on a 12ga Maverick 88 for a friend. It seems to miss fire when you rack the slide gently. If I rack the slide hard it will fire everytime. I have pulled it appart several times, it is not dirty but the arm that swings and hits the firing pin doesn't retract all the way when softly racking the slide. It only goes about 25 degrees of the way. When you rack the slide with authority it will lock back 90 degress. Hope this makes some sense, it is the best I can describe it. What if anything can I do to fix this or is it just the way it is with a 88. Smokey

All my mavericks seem to have the same arrangement. It almost seems like a half-cocking style safety. The return spring for the firing pin in the bolt is very stiff as well on these guns- I've had problems with these on mavericks in the past and there is no way even the perfectly operating ones would overcome the spring resistance to strike the primer with only the 25 degree rotation. This may be a sefety feature on mavericks/mossbergs to prevent stove-piping/short-stroking. Sorry don't have a solution for you... just theories.

No need to be concerned.. just rack it like you mean it.
Its a tool, its not a fine piece of china... it can handle the abuse.
