Hey Guys,
I'm thinking about picking up a Maverick 88 Security, primarily for messing around at the range. At some point I may want to get into trap/duck hunting so I'm thinking about purchasing a 28" barrel for it. Are there any differences between the Maverick 88 Security and the Maverick 88 Field aside from the barrel that they come with (a 18.5" Cylinder Bore instead of the 28" Vented Rib with a Modified Choke) ? Also do any of you own a Maverick ? Do they stand up well to a lot of use ? Where did you purchase yours from (SIR seems to have the best price $194) ?

I think Gatehouse had one for many years and he was quite satisfied with it. I'm pretty sre he'll be putting in his 2 cents.

If he doesn't you might want to send him a PM.

U may also want to look at the combo. It comes with both the 28"VRib bbl and the 18.5. WSL had them for about $270 which was pretty good..It cost nothing to call them
Cheers

That sounds like a good deal. I feel kind of stupid asking this but what's WSL ?

I believe WSL stands for Wholesale Sports. They are great little guns (put some 00 through mine today) and mine has had about a case of trap loads through it, as well as a few boxes of slugs and buckshot, without a hiccup. Make sure you buy the combo! I just bought the defender and now I cannot justify buying a $100+ barrel for a $200 gun. Buy the combo dammit!

For the money, they are a great gun - quite reliable and built quite tough. I would buy the combo with both barrels and pick up the pistol grip if you can find it cheap. That way, you can find out fast how much you really don't want the pistol grip *LOL* Seriously though, great gun for the dollars you spend. Not alot of used ones on CGN which might tell you something...

Thanks for the advice guys, Although wholesale sports (WSL :D ) doesn't list it on their website they have a combo deal available for 279 that includes the Maverick 88 with a 28" and 18.5" barrel I think I'm gonna go for that. SIR has a better price on the Maverick but they don't do any kind of combo deal and the barrels are normally 100 - 150 bucks. Now to find a source for cheap shotgun shells...

I've been looking at one myself recently, most likely the 28" barrel model for trap and duck hunting. I've handled a security model, and I liked it a lot, fit me nice and cycled MUCH smoother than my Norc M37 knockoff  I'd be more interested in the combo deal if it came with the 24" fully rifled slug barrel w/rifle sights, but unfortunately nobody seems to offer such a combo. Just gotta save my pennies, I guess....

If u want, just give Wholesale a call to see if they have in stock. Its a regulary stocked item so if not on hand now they will carry. May even be at a better price than shown in the catalog, as the recent fluctualtion of the dollar has resulted in many lower prices.
You are looking for item 210229 Model 88 combination shown at $279.95.

Like Gorky says, forget about the pistol grip. Other than looks its pretty useless.
Good luck

18 years later this feedback solidified my decision on my first shotgun.

Anyone have any feedback on the combo after using one for a few years?
