Maverick 88 vs Mossberg 500 Barrels?

I've heard that earlier Maverick 88's used a thinner profile barrel than normal 500 barrels due to the price point. I've also heard that more recently Mavs have just come with regular 500 barrels. Just wondering if there is anyone who is able to verify either of these claims (specifically with the 18.5" security barrel)?

Maverick shotgun barrels are the same as Mossberg 500 shotgun barrels and have the same Mossberg SKU#

When I purchased a 28" barrel it was marketed as "Mossberg 500 / Maverick 88 28" Barrel".
