Maverick O/U

I don't own one but know 4 people who bought them when they started shooting Trap at our spring league. 2 guns had issues with the firing pins (new production has since been corrected...apparently), 1 gun had both the forend and stock crack within 200 rounds, the last gun had no major issues. All 4 guns are now very loose fitting after aprox. 1500-3000 rounds.

What you do with your $$$ is your business but I honestly wouldn't own one even if it was given to me! LOL! I'd save up for another year and buy a used Browning Citori or Winchester 101 in the $700-$1200 range. Both will last a lifetime of shooting retain re-sale value as well.

Edit: Used Franchi and Antonio Zoli O/U shotguns are also good quality at an affordable price.

Is gonna be a berreta or browning no, but it should be capable of providing you reasonable service for casual use. What I mean is I wouldn't pick it to be my only shotgun, but if you only plan to shoot some casual clays a few weekends a summer, and have a back up gun just in case it breaks down during hunting season I know I plan to pick one up this summer to give a try.
My plans are always subject to change, especially if I find a used higher end O/U I like.

The fact that you get what you pay for in an over/under is a bitter lesson a lot of new shooters learn.

Three out of four failed under 3000 rounds and all have shot loose are not good odds of having one and being happy in the long term

Do not waste your money, even if it is for casual shooting. You can buy far better nice condition used guns for a bit more that are built much better and will still hold the value should you decide to sell later on. Your new $500.00 gun will be worth $300.00 as soon as you take it out of the store. But as has already been said, it's your money.

The Mavericks I saw had synthetic stocks. If those are cracking I would be surprised. I have heard nothing about firing pin issues. Is it possible that the Maverick is being confused with the Mossberg Silver Reserve. I do know these guns had firing pins issue until lately.

My apologies for the mistake...I was indeed refering to the Mossberg Silver Reserve. They are the same gun though are they not??? The Maverick version came out a couple of years after the Mossberg so they would have the updated firing pins? The Maverick still shoots loose within a few thousand rounds...

From what I have read about the Maverick alot of high end o/u shooters condemn it. If you look at the gun for what it is,very well priced, reasonably durable and best of all it gives alot of people a chance to own and o/u without spending alot of money. Do I think the gun will last 10,000 rounds of clays shooting? No. Do I think the gun was made to be a target gun shooting thousands of rounds, no. BUT I think the gun will stand up to casual behind the barn clays and various hunting scenarios. It is what it is a low priced , imported shotgun. I think it will serve the average Joe just fine.

I had one, just wanted to try it. The bottom barrel patterned low, low enough that you'd have to compensate to hit the target when shooting that barrel. The forend started to get loose and wiggle after 200 rounds. That was enough for me I traded it. Might be a good camp gun or something.

i was just curious to be honest, ive got a baikal O/U that i will pick over many guns, i was looking at them at cabelas, eventually im going to save up the few grand and buy a decent o/u. Buddy was looking at buying one it had a nice throw to the shoulder which i love in a shotgun, my sister has a rem 870 3.5 inch camo synthetic which i dislike alot but i saw the maverick and figured id check out whot others thought of it, i think i will most definatly steer clear of this one, stick to the good old baikal
