no photos of it installed... used to come with me in the plane when i was flying over the mountains.

I don't have one either and I too don't know why. The 88 is certainly cheap enough. Earlier this year a local dealer had them for less than $180. They make a great platform for a project plus if you beat them up a bit in the woods, well its not like you scratched your Benelli or Super X2. Plus they come with interchangeable chokes! (well not the security model)

I've owned an 88 for 20 years now ... NEVER a single problem with it ... I mean that and I'll say ti again ... NEVER had a single problem - EVER.

OK, one exception - partridge hunitng in late fall/early winter, managed to pack it completely full of snow & ice and little brnaches and twigs around the cycling rod the runs from the fore grip tothe action. That stoppped me from cycling it until I cleared the majority of the debris out of it.

Buried it (and myself :( ) in the mud ... quick rinse in the river and shot the rest of the day with it.

I like it MORE than any Remington (wingmaster or otherwise) that I have held.

And the best part of these guns? They absolutely LOVE WD-40 ... none fo that expensive gun oils and whatnot ... spray all the componenets with WD-40, wipe the excess off, and you're good for another month or two - in any season. Doesnt' get sticky in the cold or loose in the summer, sand and grit don't bother it either.

I like that collapsable stock ... would have to see it installed, but I'm thinking that it would make the gun a lot easier to push brush with when searching for Rabbit and Partridge. Would certainly let it fit behind the truck seat a lot better too :)

Do these still have that damn single slide rail configuration or did they finally give in and upgrade them?

Double action bars on both Maverick 88 and Mossberg 500, The mavericks come with a one piece plastic forend, a few Mossberg's have gone that way too but the higher end 500's use the metal slide tube. The only problem mine EVER had was some magnum partridge loads that would stick in the chamber a bit (ammo, not gun) Other than that it was rock solid reliable. Ive said it before and I'll say it again: The Maverick 88 is the best deal going for pump shotguns

Seriously can Shotguns get any uglier?

This was my first gun I ever bought myself... was all I could afford at the time, 18 years ago.... they used to sell them at Canadian tire....lol

I had soooo many jams because the forestock wouldn't slide properly and would go sideways thanks to the single rail.... hard time lilning it up on birds thanks to no vented rib....

Sold it for 100 bucks and asked for a Remington 870 express for xmas that year... have had it 17 years and it still works as well as the day I got it....

Really glad to hear they put the second rail on....

You must be "new" at this... Or you have been listening to "Manbearpig". The best Pump guns ever made only had one rail. The Model 31 Remington and the Model 12 Winchester. Or are you just another idiot posting in the wrong forum?

.... I have no experience with either of those... I do, however, have experience with the maverick which used to have a flimsy single rail and was a total POS.... unless I miss my mark on this one the Maverick was the topic of discussion brought up by the OP... not one of the firearms that you mentioned.....

Hmmm some how I find that statement hard to believe. I know I many shotguns that are better then the one quoted, an 870 being the start of a long list

the newer 88's do have dual action bars. I have yet to have any issues with mine as well. watched a buddy shoot his brand new out of the box 870 and had problems cycling the action.. Also, the 500 barrells and butt stocks will fit the 88.

I took the folder off because it hurt the shoulder to shoot with it extended, and if i wasnt carefull, the catch would pinch the thumb and take a chunk of skin out.

I agree it is probably the best 200 dollar firearm out there, certainly the best shotgun for that price. They are tanks.

I have no need to buy another pump....(might pick up another 88 as a spare) this thing is pretty much bullet proof

I've had a 88 going on 20yrs, only one action bar and never a jam.

That gun has been to hell and back in salt water marshes. Sandblast and Tremclad for the barrel and oil for the rest.
