I'm loading 147gr flat nose at 1.145. Have only ran about 300 down the pipe but it was all good. These are the 10 round carry mags with 9mm follower and insert.

OAL from a book is only valid for that manufacturer's bullet, it's not a generic number for all 147's. To avoid any "failures" (overpressure, jam, etc),.... seating a bullet closer to the lands but not touching increases chamber volume and reduces pressure. Seating a bullet some farther from the lands increases the freebore effect with little resistance to bullet travel reduces pressure.

Seating the bullet into the lands increases the pressure by increasing resistance to initial bullet movement, seating the bullet a lot deeper increases pressure by reducing the initial volume available.

Also described in most reloading books...

Ci peterF, thanks for your info, but what I am interested to know is the Max.OAL that will fit to a 2011 mags with 9mm follower and insert. Right now I using the 38super mags for my 9mm, I load my 9mm at 1.185 OaL, 124 gr,RN. , to make it short, my question is , will my 1.185 OAL will still fit to a STI 2011 9mm mags that comes with a 9 follower and insert. I understand that the max. OAL for a 9mm is 1.169, MY chamber can take up to 1.200. this is not a standard 9mm pistol, this a RACE GUN

The max OAl depends on the shape of the nose section. A round bullet can be longer than SWC.

is there some reason why you can't just load some bullets too long and then start seating them deeper and deeper until they fit?? Thats what I do, with an additional 20 thou for clearance.

just went and measures my mag, this is the 10 round carry mag but should be the same. the spacer is .077in thick and with the spacer in you have 1.190in. so at 1.185 I don't think its going to work.

Ever seen a 9mm blow up due to being seated to deep ?? Being a small case to begin with , the pressure can spike up to scary levels if the bullet is seated tpp deep .

thanks majoman, unfortunately the 1.185 works best for me to make major, so will just stick to this specs, will just use my super mags, feed 100% though.

He's starting with the longest, then just making it a little shorter at a time, until it works. It'll start working way before it gives "too short" problems. "Too short" is a seriously dangerous problem, indeed, but, not a concern with Ganderite's given advice.
