Max grain for Springfield M1A

Wheat, although there are users who think that barley is fine for their rifles. I'm pretty much going to stick with rice, for now anyway.

Recommended no more then 168 gr. bullets.

Heavier bullets cause undue wear and tear on the M14 (especially the op rod).

Using heavy bullets/loads also is hard on the gas system (piston) and any type of bedding.

The Marines & AMTU use up to 190 gr. matchkings, but you have to remember they travel with an Armor's van complete with LOTS of spare parts, and they also rebuild & re-bed their M14s every shooting season.

The 175 gr bullets are safe to use in the M1A/M14 rifles as well the 180 gr and up do put a hurt on parts although I tend to think that it is more from people trying to drive the heavier the bullets faster.
