I am just now getting into reloading and have a couple of Mauser 98 8x57 JS rifles I'd like to load ammo for. I have heard that most of the ammos on the shelf are dumbed down due to the previous model having a slightly smaller bore and the chance of JS ammo being used in the smaller bore models.
Since I know that both of mine are JS models, what are some maximum loads that you have tried to get the most out of the rifle? There may be some obvious answers that I may be overlooking, so forgive my newness to reloading. That's why I am asking questions. I will also be checking reloading manuals, but am guessing they are going to play it safe for the same reason the commercial ammo suppliers do.
I'm interested in your proven max loads. Also what powders and bullets do you find work best?
