Well basically a "black" rifle is any rifle that is black because it looks scary
like the AR180 AR15, black special , Berretta storm etc
but you can also count the valmet AK etc because they look scary ........and yes its sounds dumb but it is that dumb.

I usually thought the term "Black rifle" came from the fact that the public associated it with a military automatic rifle of similar design/look. Not that the public is typically correct in that association; usually, as you say, it's from some incorrect or biased fear.

Any way the first BLACK RIFLE was the M-16 (Stoner's wonderful gift to gunnutz - though some would disagree)
Often maligned and the "mattel" 16 since it was of new "space age" materials the M16 (AR 15) was the first of the series now denoted as the assualt rifle (include AK 47, FAL and Strumgewehr 44 here) and hence the term I guess stuck. Basically as the moniker in the forum says - black rifles... all the kewl stuff you can own and piss off a liberal. Caution though - you start with one then you want them all!
