I have an A3 on my 223 that I'm really happy with but have noticed that alot of guys are running the A5. Is the only difference between these stocks the hooked but? Are there other differences / advantages to the A5 over the A3?

Thanks, ZM

I have an A-5 and love it. The A-3 is outstanding as well, it boils down to personal preference.

If your A-3 is in good condition, purchasing an A-5 for the same rifle could not be considered money well spent. The A-3 is a lighter stock, which might make it more suitable to the .223. The A-5 has a deeper barrel channel and receiver, the pistol grip is the same on both stocks. McMillan has a new version of the A-3 with the butt hook.

Don't have one, but the butt hook isn't the only difference. It has a rounded, wider beavertail forend. Identical to the forend on the Marksman stock.

I think that you have Winchester Stealth, no? The forend would be similar to that.

Thanks for the responses guys. This is for a different rifle I have no plans on replacing the A3. I just wanted to know what the advantages the A5 has over the A3, I'm having a tough time deciding between them.
