Mdl 94 sight removal

What's th best way to remove the rear sights on a mdl 94? I bought some XS sights for it and want to get rid of the factory springy thingy.

Lift it up and remove the ladder then drift it out to the right by hitting it with a punch and hammer.
Punch can be hard wood, plastic, brass etc.

I didn't realize the ladder wasn't attached to the barrel. Not much of a lever gun fan...

You might want to put a rag under the sight ,where it rests on the barrel, to protect the finish as you drift it out.
You can also get dovetail slots for not much money that will fill the dovetail and keep the sharp edges of the slot protected.
