So my new 13 round magazine in AICS pattern showed up just before I had to drive to Garrison Petawawa for a PR weekend. Darn that was a hectic weekend with 55 shooters on the line....

And the crew on the line....

The reason I’m showing this pair of pics is because I offered to let people shoot with this new 13 rounder and everyone declined since they wanted to prove and test their existing magazines. Who was I to mess with people’s mojo?
Anyways I loaded up the new 13 rounder and I was pleasantly surprised. No major thumb busting like some brands can be tough on my soft teacher hands, since I’m not working in construction this year.

The magazine when loaded with all 13 308 rounds allowed me 0.25 rds of slack and for those of you with a CQB background we all desire a bit of slack when loading a full 13 rd magazine on a forward bolt. In our CQB circles, one wants about 0.50 rounds or simply put, about half a round that the final cartridge travels downward before bottoming out.
Examine the picture and look at both loaded magazines, the MDT sure presents that cartridge at a very tall angle , it’s a confidence builder. The Magpul ten rounder is nearby for comparison purposes
Other pictures of Magpul 10 and 5 rounders nearby:

Take a look at the lengths for more comparing...

I took a few dummy rounds I made up with old brass and glued in ball rounds (FMJ) and cycled them through my Remmy Magpul M700 308 SPS Tac shooter and not a single hang up presented itself. I need to get to my home range and shoot with this magazine. That’s the next adventure.
So far my first impression is: DON’T buy ONE...... Buy TWO of them!!!
Cheers, Barney
