MDT AICS mags - polymer vs steel?

I've got a new chassis on the way and need to stock up on some short action mags. I've run MDT steel mags with success on my long action tikka but looking at all my options for the new build. Other than price, does anyone have any opinions? Pros and cons? The only I've come up with is ruggedness in favour of the steel and corrosion resistance and cost on the polymer. Any other brand preferences?

I run PMAGS on my auto loaders but other than that my experience is limited. Your expertise would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have a 5-round metal, and a few 10-round polymer MDT mags, and in their chassis, they work flawless. No issues whatsoever. I guess the only down side of the polymer is you can't load longer than standard with them.....but if you're shooting factory ammo or not loading long, then it's not really a problem.

The new metal MDT mags are awesome. The 13 rounders are the same length as a standard 10 round AICS and the 10 rounders are almost as short as AW mags. I've run both in matches and they run flawlessly. The plastic mags function fine as well but you're limited to a COAL of 2.800".

I have been running the MDT poly mags and they work great. They give me some options that steel mags dont/didn't.. weight, length. The OAL length is longer then the PMAG which is why I don't run those. I like that the poly lips self lubricate and don't slice up the brass.

I just got some AI AW mags and yep, these are fantastic if your receiver/chassis will accept them. Smooth, fast and easy to load.

Just started playing with the new MDT Steel mag w/o binder plate. They do work very nicely BUT my springs get real stiff on that last rd so getting things started can be a chore. By rd 8, the spring eases up and all is well. I suspect they are using the same spring as their 13rds mag.

Also played with the Accurate mag/Cadex 10 rds mags. Reliable, simple and effective. From the first to last rd, it works nicely. Yes, these are the tallest mags you can use but that does help with the stacking and ease of feeding.

If I can help with mags, let me know... got a variety here.

They have not been released yet. There is a hand full out being bata tested. The new shorter 10 round mags are available now. These work better then any AI mag I have used. The steel and treatment on the metal makes them extremely strong and slippery. Have never had an issue with scratching brass or hard time loading.

Time for me to write up something and report on things

Ten rounds in the Magpul AICS and 13 in the MDT 13 rounder. Look at the height comparison.....

Cheers, Barney

Well, that's exciting. Wonder if they'll feed Dasher in my Tikka......
There are a couple guys running dashers out of the 10 rounders and some beta testing 13 rounders. From what I've heard so far they will feed just fine, it's just not a bad idea to push them forward off the rear of the mag body a little so that you don't get bolt-over's.

I have a couple MDT poly mags and had to shorten my OAL to fit into them. They fit fine in my PMAG and the factory Savage mags though.
