Looking on some input on which of these is a better stock for the money spent? Im liking the Cadex Field OT, looks like a quality stock but have no way handling this piece. By the time I add a buttstock and grip on the HS3 Im in the same price point as the Cadence. Weight is no issue and I dont want any rails for night vision I will never own. This will be going on a T3 Varmint with AI mag well.
I tried a search but nothing came up. I'm sure this must have been discussed before.. if it has please post a link.

Cheers!!

Just picked up a HS3 and put my PRS stock on it. While assembling the butt I had my AICS sitting on my bench and couldn't help noticing that the HS3 with a PRS attached is very near a twin to the AICS. Especially if you have Viper skins on your AICS.

As for price, not sure the HS3 quite adds up to the cost of the Field OT.

With the Field OT, I'm not overly keen on the open chassis concept but still has a tube for the barrel to sit in. The removable bottom (trigger guard and mag well) seems like a bit of a "fix for a nonexistent problem". They claim you can adjust your trigger without losing your zero. If my scope is attached to my action, as it is in a open chassis, I can remove my barrelled action from any stock without fear of losing my zero.

Just a couple of my observations. YMMV

The fix for a non existent problem would be correct for the open chassis but makes sense for the ones with the top rail attached....leaving the different chassis the same basic design makes more sense from a manufacturing standpoint....less tooling changes ect...

I did the same and ordered a cadex Field OT. Now the waiting game start

I had a Tac21 before, it was a nice product however... I didn't like it felt unconfortable.

I just received an MDT HS3 Chassis with the Skelestock. I will be honest, it was a donation for the Alberta Poker Rally and to be fair, Cadex has also sponsored us with a trigger. I have not had a chance to look at the Cadex chassis to compare so I will only comment on my thoughts about the HS3.

The overal fit and finish is excellent. I really like the weight and balance of the chassis. The polymer sided make for a really nice feel as well which I'm sure will be a benefit in winter and hot summer days. Skelestock is REALLY nice. The adjustablity is great, although you do need tools to lock it up. The one thing it did think could have been better, but was certainly not a deal breaker was the magazine release. It was a little hard to get too, but could not be bumped accidentally. One thing I really liked, that has typically steered me away from chassis, was the trigger finger placement. MDT has done a great job ob spacing the grip location back from the trigger to ensure that a medium sized hand (mine) places the finger pad on the trigger without a lot of thought. You can also comfortably run your grip hand thumb vertically instead of wrapping it around if you so choose.

I had a really positive impression with the MDT. Im looking forward to completing a build of my own with one now.

Now I just need to find a sponsor to donate a Remington short action to mount up in this to give away at the shoot!

Thanks again to both Cadex and MDT for sponsoring the match!!

I just got an HS3 in the mail as well! Waiting for the PRS stock to arrive. I put an A2 grip on it, but will be getting a different grip. I like the A2 on an AR-15, but on the HS3 the trigger seems to be up higher, and when using the A2 grip, I found my middle finger ended up on top of the bump on the front of the grip.

So what would a total be on that set up...has to be close to the Cadex Field OT???

Cheers!!

I believe around $1100 MSRP

The HS3 is priced between the LSS and the Tac-21. The whole set up will be cheaper than the Cadex after taxes for sure.
I'm new to Precision Rifle and can't tell a good stock from a great one. Just got my HS3 to the range once and it was great. I replaced a Bell & Carlson with the MDT.
Dilligaf has a lot more experience with this stuff. If he sold his Tac-21 for a Cadex for additional cost, he must have a good reason...I hope! Chime in Dilligaf?

PS The only drawback to the HS3 with the Rem 700 short action is you have to remove the butt stock everytime you want to remove the bolt. The bolt hits the cheek riser of the MDT stock.

Bought a Cadex field OT last fall. Dropped a Rem 700 SPS Tactical .223 into it. Love the stock. Quite a step up from the hogue that came with the rifle. Only issue I had was I tried a couple different scope rails but they both wouldn't fit with the stock. They were a bit too long and would hit the handguard. Finally got the dremel out and cut 1/4"-1/2" off the rail (no way was I cutting the stock!). I imagine there is a rail that fits but I just wanted to use what I had.

Also I tried some MDT poly mags but they don't work very well with my setup. The cartridge tends to get the head pushed down into the mag rather then slide into the chamber. No problem with the AICS poly mags though.

I have yet to receive my Cadex to compare... lol But hopefully it was the right move, because thats an expensive screw up... hahahahaha

I'm sure the EE will welcome the Cadex with open arms if you don't like it!
What sold you on the Cadex over the Tac-21? I've played with the 21 but never shot a gun with that chassis but by all accounts, it's a very good platform. Comfort? Shooting position? Recoil control? Accuracy?

The Tac21 was my entry into chassis systems, I didn't want to spend lots of money. I found one for 400$ and started my build.

After using it for a while, I got annoyed that the chassis had the entire action enclosed, The safety was a PITA to use on my savage, to remove the bolt I had to remove the buttstock and use a tool to get to the bolt release.

Now with that said, for the price I paid these little annoyance were not that bad. I always had an eye out for the Cadex, but couldn't afford it on my Mil salary.

I lucked out this year and had a big fat Tax return, So i got a CDX-30 and used the funds from my savage Tac21 build to buy the Nightforce scope.

The Cadex riffles should start shipping in 2 weeks, I cant wait to get my hands on it....

The HS3 is my first go also. As mentioned, I also have to remove the stock to access the bolt. The CDX-30 is a beautiful rifle. The folding stock looks great.
What kind of accuracy were you getting with the Tac-21 chassis? And what power Nightforce did you end up getting?
I remember your Cadex Tax Return Thread but didn't check it out as I won't get one this year and didn't want to see you gloat! LOL!
