Just had the first day at the range with my 7mm-08 Frontier living in a LSS chassis. I noticed that the MDT magazines would not seat in properly, which mean that I could not properly load or eject and so spent the day as a single shot.

Anyone know what bits of the rifle or the chassis, or perhaps even the mag I should be focusing on to make this work as expect?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi there,

I have a pic of a modified mag that fits the frontier in an Mdt Lss. Pics for me on cgn are a struggle.

Pm me you email and I'll forward you the pic.

By the way....how do you like the chassis? I have a frontier in 308 and am thinking of going a similar route :)

The LSS Ruger chassis was designed specifically for the Gunsite Scout rifle, which is the only rifle in the M77 series that accepts detachable box magazines.

Other Mark II / Hawkeye short action rifles will drop into the chassis, but have small internal differences which interfere with the AICS magazine.

You need to notch the back corners of the magazine and they will work. If you need help with this please call or email us.

Just following up on this build.

It works poorly, all the fiddling with the magazine is insufficient IMO for feeding. Feeding is always comprimised, but even more so, extraction suffers from excessive friction.

I'm curious, can you folks recommend a gunsmith that could make the necessary alteration to this rifle to match the cutout of the Gunsite one? This is among my favorite rifles, so I'd rather avoid being the amateur who ruins it.

Hello Mossler,

PM me your shipping details and we will send you a modified magazine to try.

Depending on which ejector your rifle has, the magazine will need to be relieved for that as well.
