MDT mag problems

I just got 2 new mdt polymer 10 round .223 mags and I'm having trouble with both. When clambering a round with multiple rounds in the mag the round below the one being chambered gets the projectile pushed downward kicking up the base of the round which then catches on the bolt. I then have to pull the bolt back a bit to get the round in the mag to flatten out again.

Has anyone else had problems like this? Have you fixed it?

I have mdt steel mags with this problem. And some without. The problematic mags have no binder plate in them. Which jams the tip of the cartridge on the chassis as it pushes the round up. Maybe your chassis isn’t compatible with their poly mags. It might involve a little dremel time.

Hmm. That actually shouldn’t have a problem afaik. Put a round in the mag with the tip pushed as far foreward(barrel direction) as it can go. Put the mag in the gun and look down through the ejection port. Does the cartridge bullet tip interfere with the chassis?

If I'm doing what you say correctly the bullet wont touch any part of the chassis. The closest thing to the bullet is the feed ramp.

Just fooled with it a bitandnif I push the bolt forward very slowly the round will chamber correctly

Nop not my problem. If I take the loaded mag out of the rifle and start to push the first round forward out of the magazine just before the first round leaves the mag lips it will push the forward of the next bullet down

Only other thing I can thing of, is the lip at the base of the brass is interlocking with the round below. And pushing it down as you chamber. Setting the next round up weird. Idk. This is strange.

I was going to comment then I saw Savage, I have plastic and steel MDT .223 mags, been in a LSS, a ESS, and a LSS XL Gen2, and all work fine but my guns a Rem 700’s.

I’d contact MDT, they have very good customer service.

What I see happening is when the round is pushed forward out of the mag just before it leaves the lips the only part of the top round that is touching the one below is so far forward on the case that the spring pushes the rear of that round up

Email is sent but patience is not my strength

I just went and looked at my mags and messed with them a bit out of the gun pushing rounds out trying to get them to go what you are describing, maybe a long shot but I took the spring and follower out and if I bent the spring up more right under the follower to put more pressure on the tip of the bullet it was harder to get the round under the one being loaded to nose dive.

No luck.

Just loaded up 10 to see what would happen. First 2 or 3 cycle fine other than that the same thing happened.

I'll just have to wait to see what mdt has to say

Mdt will replace the 223 mags. You will not fix them by fiddling with the spring.

As far as the non-binder plate metal magazines, they will not work in factory Remington or Savage rifles without notching the feed ramp.
