well its done, finally got my MDT TAC 21 chassis in from another cgn'er for a great deal, came with Magpul prs stock, Ergo grip and the chassis
thanks DG photography
wasnt super keen on the paint job from the pictures i had seen but when i got it i was amazed at how well it looked in person and how well it blended in with my hunting area and surroundings, made a few minor tweaks for my preference and the paint was GTG

details:
Remington .308 Win sps AAC tactical
20" heavy barrel
wannabe harris bipod
Grizzly Gunworks Defcon 1 muzzle brake
magpul PRS stock
ergo grip
AICS 10 round mag .308
bedded action (already done by previous owner then shaved slighly more by me)

OPTICS:
Leupold Mark AR 4-12x40mm scope
Warn vertical rings (very good for the price i think)
leupold sunshade
leupold aluminum flip covers
custom "smiley"

things to do still:
trued action
bolt knob (badger?)
more powerful optics
forward rails and covers
better bipod

install on the unit was very straight forward by following there online video. take down for bore cleaning and bolt removal is one pin and the stock comess off and everything out the back. with the 40mm objective lens it only left me with 2-3mm of space between the scope and reciever, hoping to find taller rings. the magazine holds in there tight and goes in and out of place withough a struggle. it does weigh 13.2 pounds but it doesnt bother me since i have never really been into the whole light gun is better for hunting thing, give me a hefty well built gun anyday haha. love the fact it has a 20moa rail built in (just hoping it will zero at 100m).

overall i would strongly reccomend the mdt tac 21 to anyone looking for a new "custom" stock, good price and very well made

-grizzly brake is a thing of beauty, very well made and works like a charm, they say 40% recoil reduction and i believe it, even had my 5 year old nephew shoot it while still in the original stock, low dust from it and the only downside is noise but not a big deal. Grizzly defcon 1 brake is a must and service is very good

now for some pics

hoping to find the nice ones tomorrow and start playing with the charge and seating depths from there

looks good! id ask how you like the stock but i guess well need to wait for the range report, i thought about getting one, but opted for an A5

if you plan to upgrade theoptices check out what Sean (juanveldez) did the his top rail with some machine work, looks pretty sweet

Thanks for sharing. Even though I personally went AICS 2.0 over MDT I very much like the MDT and a shooting buddy has used one for well over a year and has zero complaints.

Awesome build, very jealous.

Really like your reloading organization. I have found that instead of labeling the bullets with load sizes, I use a fine Sharpie or other perm. marker and just write the grain load right onto the brass case. It survives quite well, even the firing process, and cleans right off during the case tumbling step afterwards.

That's a very neat way of doing it. I just use zip lock bags for each different load with a slip of paper inside stating the bullet/powder/OAL and put the brass back in each corresponding bag.

Great looking build! I was close to getting the TAC21 recently but went another direction but its still on my list. The paint job looks good, its nice to see something a bit different. Looking forward to hearing how it shot.

Great looking setup! Maybe someday I will do the same.

As far as the loading organisation, no disrespect, but This system is fine till you open up the lid and a gust of wind comes by. Or if the labels are stickied onto the bullets it "could create a mess. Been there! Lol!

If you dont mind the suggestion, i create a small label for each load to shoot, and in the corner of that little label I put a bold mark (representing that load) such As an "X", or "/", "3", etc. I put the labels on the inside if a cartridge holder, or the end of the cartrige box.

Then I mark this load identifier onto the primer of each cartridge loaded as such.

This way, you can make a pile of test loads in a box, and never mix them up. Even if you spilled the container. After the cases are fired, you can still see which load they belong to (if needed).

You dont have clean the cases after, and the mark on the primer is removed during the sizing of the case. Looks organized and professional.

Hope this idea can help someone.
Have fun and straight shootin!

range report

well it was a hot day at the range today
+29 degrees celcius
wind behind my back at 3kmph (according to the spinner)
seems like the whole RCMP detachment showed up to practise handgun shooting there service pistols (wow did i get some wierd looks when the say my rifle)

varget powder
federal 210 primer
nosler match once fired brass
168gr nosler ballistic tip
168gr barnes TSX

all shots were from 100m off a bag and bench
seems like my 4th and 5th shots were "flyers" hot barrel maybe
10-15 mins between 5 round groups for cool time
bore snake between groups

deffinatly not used to the "AR" style platform and pistol grip so that will take some getting used to feels like its shooting better than me right now and maybe move my range out to 300m for better comparison

also had a little visitor, nice 2 point buck all velvety and waiting for fall, must be a pretty dumb/deaf deer to be on the range

the 46 gr round were a right off, didnt like a slight signs of pressure with the barnes TSX

45 gr nosler ballistic tips were a fore runner (might play with these)
same with the 43gr noslers

possibly use the 45 gr barnes tsx for a hunting round

overall the nosler out preformed for a target round and i will fine tune my loads or possibly move to a 175 gr bullet,

pretty happy with the set up, really comfy to shoot and gets all sorts of compliments

happy shooting
cheers

Try a different bullet/weight. From the groups posted, your rifle doesn't like what you're shooting now. Maybe try a 150gr, or the 155gr Palma. Or, go big and try the 175gr MatchKing or one of the good 180gr hunting bullets. With that rifle you should be doing at least 1-1.5 MOA. Also, check to see if your rings/bases are properly torqued. It wouldn't hurt to box your scope also to be sure the internals are A-OK. If an overheated bbl. was the problem, you'd see more pronounced vertical stringing.

Thanks fr the idea. I have since decided to switch up to the 180 gr nosler ballistic tip to take advantage of the high BC and faster twist rate. Also want a target and hunting round. Scope is good. Also need to get more used to the different stock. All just practice I guess. Once I find a good 180gr round I plan on ladder testing it and maybe finding a better more secure shooting rest.

more load development

got out to the range today to do some more load devlopment on a dual purpose hunting and target load. i have scrapped the 168 gr bullets since my rifle really didnt like them and now have moved on to "bigger" and better rounds

built some rounds based on the 180gr nosler ballistic tip from 43-45gr in half gr increments. found that the 43 gr are shooting so well i had to double check and sure enough they were going through the same holes

recipe
twice fired nosler match brass
federal 210 primers
varget powder 43gr
180gr nosler ballistic tip
overall length 2.935 (fits in AICS mag with room to spare)

rough calculation on velocity is 2550-2570ftps
BC of .507

this was out of a cold barrel and both my first and second groups i let the barrel cool down

temp was 19 degrees celcius
2kmph tail wind at my back
cloudy and humid (just after rain storm)
all shots at 100yards

first group was awesome and i couldnt believe it. i though i missed on my third shot

photo-89.jpg

so i fired a second group 3 shots and same thing
then i fired another 2 shots just to confirm and low and behold they arent missing

photo-90.jpg

pretty stoked on this for being a hunting round and going to play with the powder in 0.1gr increments

cheers
