I have a decent amount of experience at medium to long distance shooting and have been equipped with a Remington 700 VSSF in .308 for the past 10 years or so. I have a Sightron scope attached that reaches out to 800 metres comfortably on torso sized targets.
Last fall I was introduced to PRS style shooting, and boy was I hooked. I did poorly for a number of reasons including skill and gear, but learned a ton and recognized that i needed to upgrade the old Mcmillan stock. I am not a gear whore, and would rather spend my time and money on skill and ammo, then the latest gear. I spent the winter researching reasonably priced options on changing up the blind mag of the Rem 700 and changing the configuration - I decided on the XRS chassis from MDT. Priced at $500, I received it a few days ago and installed it in a few minutes. I also obtained one 10 round, and one 5 round metal magazine from MDT.
I am very impressed with the set up. I have cycled snap caps through the mags and they functioned flawlessly. The mags initially went into the mag well stiffly but they have broken in easily. In retrospect, I should have bought two 10 round magazines as they are much easier to manipulate than the shorter 5 rounder. The barrel is generously free floated, and the weight is reasonable. While not tailor made to PRS competition, it suits the generalist approach I was looking for.
Kudo's to MDT for a nice chassis at a nice price.
