me and my big mouth

So..... with regards to the law, is there anything pertaining to owning registered receivers only and not having the slides to accompany them?

Here is some relevant legislation pertaining to "conversion units":

Firearms Registration Certificates Regulations:
http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-98-201/index.html

Relevant part "Conditions":

Section 4(2) Subject to section 5, the Registrar shall attach to a registration certificate that is issued in respect of a firearm the condition that when the type, action, calibre or gauge of the firearm is modified, the holder of the certificate shall advise the Registrar of the modification,
  • (a) if the modification is intended to be permanent, within 30 days after the modification; and
  • (b) if the modification is not intended to be permanent but still exists 30 days after it is made, without delay after that period.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, for discussion, since the modification of your firearm [9mm pistol] is not meant to be "permanent" [by adding & occasionally using a .22 conversion unit with it] then there is no requirment to advise the "Registrar" of the "modification" [addition & occasional use of the .22 unit with it].

I called today just to confirm this. The woman I spoke to corroborated that while you may update your registration to reflect using a conversion kit, you are not obligated to, so long as the conversion is not permanent. Consequently I cancelled the application to update my registration.

Why have you got your panties in a knot. Caliber isn't listed on your reg cert. if your checked they are going by the serial no on your frame.

As far as I know, there are different FRT numbers for the same model of firearm in different calibres. I don't know how the registry works "on the ground" for police, but I would be surprised if calibre were not listed when they access it.

Generally speaking I do my best to avoid speaking to or dealing with police ever. If you think my panties are in a knot now, you should see me after I get harassed or have my things impounded because I thought I knew the law or police protocol when I did not.

Glad it all worked out for you!

No sense in going thru needless hassle if you don't have to.

I have a reg cert for a norc frame only. I got it for 10 bucks so I could get a LTATT before buying my first pistol.

I have a CZ kadet Conv kit for my Shadow. So in transport it needs to be a 9 mm as per Cert papers, the ATT refers to cert papers. So just don't store or transport it with kit installed. (Make me wonder if you transport it fully disassembled would mean... ehh whatever)

Is this actually written somewhere in the transport regulations? I very frequently take ''half a gun'' with me to the range, had no idea you HAD to always have the matching slide for the trip..... can't remember the last time my G17 had the 9mm slide on it, as I always use an AA kit when it goes..... and when I take my Sig 226 Classic with the 9mm slide only because I feel like shooting a Kadet..... so this is considered illegal transport?.....
