Hey, My brother and I built a meat hanging shack for hanging game at his place north of edmonton. We got a cooler in there and a base board. The cooler works well but the thermostat for the baseboard takes the temps up too high. It's a 220 volt baseboard and is switched on the wall and has a line voltage thermostat mounted on the wall as well.

Anyone have experience finding a decent thermostat that will kick of at 4-8* celsius accurately? We have tried a couple regular household ones that will take the temps up to about 15* although they are marked as to having a 5-40* range.

Thanks!

Cody.

I can tell you that you can actually buy control voltage and up to 220volt 20Amp rated thermostats that go from -10 Celcius up to 25 C specifically designed for garages, barns, etc. A household one has an anticipator system to give a "comfort range" and I have always found they don't work well lower that 4-6 Celcius. Also, make sure you are using the proper voltage of thermostat: household ones are only rated to 36Volts, but almost every baseboard heater I've installed (several dozen anyways) are 120 or 240 Line voltage thermostat controlled. If you use a 36Volt one on 120 or 240 Volts they often will not "fry or short-out" but will NOT work right (kinda as you explain).

All you need to do is call a heat/cool place in Edmonton like EMCO... or call an electrical wholesaler like BJ Electric, EECOL, etc..... I know 'cause I have a 120V one in my work van rated for -20 to +20.

What did you use for the cooler? I am thinking about building some thing like this but wasn't sure what to use for cooling.

This may halp you !
Its the Helix DBS-1000 thermostat. I use this for my reptile room where I need to keep the tepms accurately for them and for the past 5 years this thing is still goin with no issues.
Only thing to do is whatever you arer goin to heat with you are goin to need a plug on it to plug it into the threomstat.
