I set up my press to load 3 " Winchester HS hulls then added a MEC short kit to be able to load 21/2" shells as well. The literature claims no adjustment is necessary if using 2 1/2" HS or Remington hulls. They are correct as the loaded ammo turned out fine. The older Win AA hulls are longer and require diddling around with adjustments.Couldn't be bothered I'll roll crimp the other brands and when they wear out at 3 " cut them off to 2 1/2" and load them some more.

No replies yet, but just wanted to say thanks. Didn't know short kits existed. Pretty smart way to go about loading 3 and 2 3/4" shells. I might look into getting one when I get my MEC press.

Cheers!

Just paid $100 for 1000 Federal #209A's ! The empty brick still had the price tag from Montana on it when it was still legal to do so. $2.39 /100

I'd be hesitant to buy the BPI manuals as they pimp their own wads ,primers and European hulls for data. A roll crimper in a drill/press will do a nice job on the slugs. Theoretically if the slug weighs the same as the shot you can still use the data .Buckshot would require "nesting" stacking it in defined order then either a fold crimp or roll crimp with an overshot card.Don't add buffer with the buckshot unless a recipe says to it will increase the pressure.Overshot cards can be cut from a cereal box or waxed milk carton and sealed with Elmers or hot glue. Hole punch ,mallet and scrap plywood.

I have a roll crimper and a leather punch set ready to go. I just need to start experimenting. I know that generally not a good idea with shotshells but as you have pointed out there is lots of data to get started. As the OP pointed out it's nice to be able to use otherwise pounded out components.
