I just got a new MEC Sizemaster.

During the set up for 3" shotshells I had to raise the column by removing the front bolt, raising the column 1/4 inch, and installing the bolt in the top hole of both the column and base. There is no back bolt as indicated in the instructions.
I put spacer 8126 on the deprime punch, and spacer 8111 on thr primer seating ass'y.

The deprime, prime powder drop, wad pressure and shot drop all work great on the 3 inch shells. The problem is the crimp.

The pre crimp seems OK. Tried light and heavy pre crimps plus in between.

The final crimp does not punch far enough down and so a hole is being left in the middle of the crimp where the shot pours out of.

Tried adjusting the crimp punch down but run out of threads. If the crimp punch is threaded into the frame with a couple of threads on the screw, and the lock nut tightened, the crimp is not punched down but flush. Again gaping hole.

The cam adjustment does not have any effect.

The other thing that I noticed is that compared to a sizemaster I used about 15 years ago, this one seems to be made from very mild steel. I pressed hard to de-prime an old fired shell, and the column bent a little to the left near the bottom. I grabed the charge bar area and bent it back. Do I have a deffective unit. Shouldn't the steel be hardener?

Help and advise appreciated.
