I have tried the search function but cannot find anything about them, what I am looking for is a better way to sift my brass out of the media. I have been looking at the media sifters that are produced by Dillon. Are they worth the money? Are they a better solution?

i made a real good- cheep one out of the steel outer peice from a big truck air cleaner. cut it open and unrolled it, built a small square out of some old 2x4s and stapled on the wire. works great

I pour the mix of brass and media into a basket with square holes big enough for the media to pass through but leaving the brass in the basket. Got it at the dollar store and just sift over a rubber maid tub... works great!

A plastic collander from a 'dollar store' with the bottom holes drilled bigger works well. Shake the media out over a shoe box. Buying stuff like that from the reloading manufacturers just costs more.

I have a plastic kitchen rack that would sit over a sink. Sot of thing you would use for washing vegetables. Use it over a tub.
Also have a Dillon unit.
Some tumblers have ventilated tops, so the whole tunbler can be inverted over a bucket.

if you want to go still cheaper-2 ice cream buckets- drill holes in the bottom of one, ( figure the size of your holes)and they stack- used that for years before i went rcbs

I have the RCBS separator and I'm very satisfied with it. The price is well worth it in time savings, as I find that it knocks the media out of the inside of the cases much easier and quicker than a simple sieve.

I made something similar out of a sheet of 1/4" screen formed into a funnel shape. Pour thru into a plastic tub. Kind of like panning for gold.

I've been using the plastic "hat" that came with my cabellas tumbler... not having tried anything else, I dont have a problem... I dump a hundred brass into it and shake over a bucket... I put the bucket and the sieve on the bench and inspect each brass as I place them into boxes or loading blocks...

Yes and Yes

Nothing seems to work as good as a Rotary Media Separator.

Most people that have posted here have graduated to one.

Shaking the media into a bucket is OK, but you still have to empty most of the individual cases by hand.

A Rotary Media Separator does this all in one in less than a minute.

I use a Dillon and have used RCBS.

Both work great.

I've got the Hornady M3 tumbler. It holds 1000 9mm cases plus media. The Dillon Sifter is worth it's weight in gold. It spins almost all the media out. Left over media messes up the case feeder and clogs the shellplate.

The reason I was looking into it, was I have been going the cheap route, colanders and so on shaking the media out into a bucket. Some have stated this fact that you still have to empty the brass individually, I would like to get away from that. When I have time to sit down and reload I want to be efficient and quick (and pump out lots of loaded rounds). I don't mind taking the time to empty them as it gives me a chance to inspect them also. The time investment is very precious and the rotary separators are supposed to do it all. It seems like the people that have them really like them so I think I will take the plunge. Do they keep the mess to a min?

I use a plastic basket from the dollar store. By far the best sifter I have found. Just get one with holes slightly small than 9mm, so the 22 passes through.
