Howdy all,

I need to get a gas port opened up a bit on an AR barrel. I'm wondering if anyone in Medicine Hat and surrounding area know of any competent gunsmiths or machinists that could do this for me. I will likely have to come back a couple times to test the barrel in between the re-sizing's for functionality. I would love to avoid having to drive back and forth to Calgary ( I have someone there who can do it for me if needs be).

Appreciate the help.

Jay

Order a couple drill bits and very carefully drill it. You are hardly going to be removing any material. What size is your current gas port? Adjustable gas block?

0.082" currently. Going to step up to 0.085" then test, and increase by 0.005" as needed.

And yes, I'm running an adjustable block. Gas wide open and the bolt won't move. I've troubleshooted everything and the issue is the port hole size.

.082 is reall small what contour is the barrel? I contoured a blank for one of my ars it was a heavy contour (I think it was SPR contour) started off with a .093" port on rifle length gas system would cycle handloads great but wouldnt run any of the bulk ammo worth a damn. I dont have an adjustable block on that gun and after a bunch of research i opened it up to .101 and it works flawless with everything. Find a buddy with a drill press get some bits and get after it, its not hard. These would be the bit sizes I would try.
