I've only really shot slow fire stuff, Garand - can a noob shoot in this one?

Yes you can shoot this. If you are on the fence about coming I out I recommend you jump in and give it a try. All skill levels come out for these matches and if it's your first time you will shoot in novice so you compete with other first time shooters. It's a good idea to tell the RO you are a first time competitor and they can provide some guidance to ensure you don't violate any safety rules.

Any strong side holster will do. It should be able to retain the pistol while you hop up and down or do a squat. There may be some movement at the start of the stage before you draw your pistol so it has to be retained for the movement. Generally nothing too strenuous but depending on how the match director made the stage you might start holding ammo cans or something. Once you draw your pistol it will remain out of the holster until you are done the stage.

This match requires a drop pouch. A pocket or carpenters pouch or anything will do. There will be at least one stage in the match where you will not be permitted to drop magazines or speed loaders on the ground.

Last years pistol match was a blast. There's a wood stove in the club house so even if the weather sucks you have a chance to warm up.
