Melissa Bachman heads to Newfoundland with Efford's Hunting Adventures in pursuit of her very first moose. The footage is incredible after Melissa puts one round from her .300 Win. Mag. into the moose and the meal that evening was even better! For more, visit http://www.MelissaBachman.com

She was using a Thompson/Center Encore Pro Hunter in a .300 Win. Mag.

You can see the blood spraying out of the moose at one point.

That is a great bull. IMO a very big boy for Newfoundland.

Agreed. You usually have to get well off the beaten track to find bulls like that here. Not always, but usually. Which, of course, is why non-resident hunters pay the big bucks.

Agreed. My brother got a similar size bull last season. But they are rare. It seems in Newfoundland then give out way to many " bull only" licenses. They are weeding out the mature bulls imo.

Definitely a factor. The ratio of bull only to either ### licenses in this most recent season was approx 46:54. Most resident hunters (accounting for 88% of the total licenses) are not trophy hunters, and have a keen dislike for the bull only licenses. But these hunters will, of course, take bulls at the first opportunity. The way the management areas are arranged and how they correspond to (human) population centers also plays a large factor, something I was driving at earlier. We will hopefully see some rationalization of how this is handled when the Department of Environment & Conservation initiates its 5 year management plan.

Agreed, most people i know, would rather pass on a huge bull and take a younger fellow. Mature bulls tend to be tougher eating. However, they are opportunist, and if their licence says bull only, well its gonna get taken. The numbers of bulls have declined and you have to take what you can get.
