 I am trying to get all the parts together to start shooting my new Remington R5. I want to use Warne steel bases and Burris Signature zee rings to mount a Menace 4-14x44FFP. Will I be able to use medium rings or will I have to use high rings.

I am not sure of the height difference, but I use TPS low rings for the 4-14x44FFP and the height is just right for me. I have mounted it with the mediums and it is fine as well but I prefer low for all of the Falcon scopes with the exception of the bigger objective on the 4.5-19x56 where medium would be a minimum. Low rings with the 4.5-18x56 leave the flip up covers just touching the barrel which isn't a good thing.

All of these were tested on my LTR, so it should be similar for the R5.

I use that blue, clay-like, "dummy" glue to set my scope onto my rifle, then measure the thickness.

If only manufacturers would list some useful specs on their sites. The best I've seen for this is Sako/Optilock.

I have a Tasco Titan (30mm tube) 3-12x50 on a Savage 110 with a sporter contour and it JUST clears the barrel with Warne low bases. I actually had to file a flat spot on the scope cover to get it to fit between the bell and the barrel.

The height from receiver to the bottom of the scope is .525, half of which is the base, the other the rings. The outside diameter of the bell is 2.36".

Good luck.
