I realize this has been brought up several times (I used the search function - w00t!) but I thought I might start a thread going through the entire process since I'm right smack at the beginning.

I'm applying for restricted and non-restricted. I also have bi-polar disorder. My illness is completely stable and I have ongoing treatment to ensure it stays that way. Based on what I've read so far, I don't anticipate this being a problem with my application. I plan to be 100% honest and I know my docs will back me up.

So, I'll continue posting updates as I have them.

PS - If you think this is a stupid idea, let me know. :)

It's not a stupid idea, but I suspect you'll be denied. A letter from your doctor will help though. However, if you've ever attempted suicide or been involved with any anger related attacks, you will be denied.
"...plan to be 100% honest..." You have to be. BSing on the application will result in an immediate denial.

I don't think it will be a problem with the proper supporting documents from your clinical providers.

Im not really sure I agree with the process though.

I just went through these hoops with the BC CFO's office regarding my PTSD and prior firearm related incidents involving the RCMP.

All that I needed was clearance from one of my psychologist stating that they feel I pose no risk to myself and others in regards to owning firearms.

With said documentation from a practicing professional things were moved along and I had my license renewed, non and restricted class. :)

This is why I'm not worried, though I understand the possibility of being denied. Good advice about Washington... it's likely going to be at least a month before I can submit the application anyway.

To date I have never had any difficulties getting or renewing my FAC/PAL/RPAL. Bi-polar or manic depression is treatable and is considered an illness. I got custody of my kids years back as my ex could not make an argument that I was an unfit parent due to depression. I have never needed a doctors note to justify my ownership of firearms.
