I just freed up some cash and wanna pick up a decent reflex sight. Yeah, I could go eith Eo/Aimpoint but I was thinking of getting something different and I like the Meprolight's design. Most likely I'll be grabbing a 3x magnifier as well. Will start out on my AR for IPSC/3gun (tacops), but will move to the 10/22 for IPSC MR next year. I'd really appreciate some tips on choosing a reticle for matches out to 300yds. Here are the choices and my thoughts..
1) I'm liking the 15MOA donut of death best. Quick to get on target up close, putting the dot just under the POI gets her there at 100, exactly at POI for another 100 and change and just a bit above POI at 300. Good enough for rough and dirty action shooting.
2) The triangle is a very nice reticle out to 220-250 but it would completely obscure the popper with the right hold at longer distances
3) Worried about the plain dot visibility in bright daylight. Had to crank the TRS-25 all the way up to 11 today and even then it was faint. At 6, I thought it was broken or that I may need to replace the battery (relatively new).
4) The X can be made to work but would take a bit more effort figuring out the holds at 100 and 300 than the donut of death
Am I analyzing this right? Missing anything? Looking forward to reading your opinions, gents and thank you in advance.
