Merkel and J.P Sauer 12ga Nominal Bore Size

Have 2 DDR made Model 8s, does anyone know off hand what nominal bore size in 12ga these were made to?

The Suhl proof house only stamps chamber length and gauge, they typically didn't stamp the bore size on them.

So I guess they didn't stamp the choke/constriction ?

If you want to know the bore size of moderately old or old guns, measure it. Who knows WTF has happened to the gun before it came to you.

Correct, go shoot the gun at 40 yards, count the pellet hits, consult a choke chart, then you will know without guessing what a particular barrelis choked at for that particular load. The average of more shots (ie a ten shot string) will give you a more accurate figure. Different ammo, different velocity, different shot size will cause different but similar results. Typically German guns are factory choked full or extra full.

I plan to pattern test hem both when the club re-opens. As Ashcroft noted, the load can affect choke patterns greatly. Intersurplus lited hem as being Full in both barrels, but the bore mop tells that the left barrels are tighter than the right on both.

At 25yrds, I have 30" pattern in the right barrels and about 25" in the left. So assuming M/F in both cases.
