I searched for this issue to see if others had encountered it but found nothing.

I picked up two Mesa side saddles for an 870 Marine Magnum and a DA Grizzly. They appear quite easy to install but for some reason the Chicago screws which replace the trigger pins on the smaller hole closer to the receiver do not fit through the trigger group holes :/ They fit through the receiver's holes just fine with the trigger groups removed. Same issue on the MM and Grizz.

I am just wondering if anyone has encountered this before? It has me a bit perplexed.

never had this issue with installing one on a wingmaster or a grizzly.

do the mesa screws fit through the trigger group holes when the trigger group is removed?

also you might have to use a mallet to smack them in if they are a tight fit

I just installed one on my marine a couple weeks ago, they fit, you just have to really push the trigger group into the receiver, I had to play around with it for a few minutes once I finally had it all lined up it slipped right in.

That's strange , did the trigger group have any play to it with the old pins in the receiver?

Side by side , does it look like there's much difference between the mesa Chicago pin and the factory one ?

Both of the shotguns are quite new and have only been broken down a handful of times, so the original pins are still relatively snug in the receiver, no play at all. The Mesa Chicago screw looks to be the same size as the original pin, but I got concerned when they wouldn't fit on both the Grizzly and MM.

I removed the trigger groups of both guns and tried to fit the Chicago screws through them, to try and isolate whether the issue was with fit with the receiver or trigger group. The Chicago screws dont fit through either trigger group when they are removed either. I considered using a rubber mallet to use some force, but haven't tried yet.

Ya I had initially thought that if I moved the trigger group around a bit I could get it to line up and thought that was my issue. But, as mentioned above, the screws wouldn't go through the trigger group when it was removed from the receiver, so I was able to conclude that it wasn't a matter of me not lining it up. I hoped that it was a lining up issue and that I would be able to have the same result you had. No dice.

Thanks a lot for the responses, I'm going to play around them again today, maybe try a mallet with the trigger groups removed to see if they will eventually go through.

You realize that the holes in the trigger group have a spring detent to prevent the pins from falling out. Your original pins have a groove in them where the spring clip rests. Your Chicago screws are likely hanging up a bit on the spring clip. Either a very light tap with a rubber mallet, or put a little more chamfer on the Chicago screws on a belt sander should work

I think you're bang on. Thanks for the response.
