i've been doing hours of research on these two items for my new 870 Police, which will be here soon. i initially wanted the TacStar Side Saddle, but after reading all the negative things people had to say about it, i have changed(?) my mind. in almost every post on other sites, lots of people referred to the Mesa Tactical SureShell saddle as being the 'Mercedes' of side saddles... i read how many people 'shot' the TSSS loose by the simple recoil of the gun. and some people mention using Loctite to keep it in place? this seems like a joke to me. one shouldn't have to add anything to the tiny threads to prevent the thing from coming loose:(

so does anybody here have Mesa's product on their shotgun? and if so, ho do you like it?? i realize it's almost double the price, but when comparing it to a top of the line Police, it sholdn't matter. oh, and the whole saddle is made out of aluminum w/ some kind of rubberized? inserts to keep the shells in place.

thanks

love mine & had no issues even with slugs. Just bought the new Mesa one which combines a picatinny rail on top with a side saddle ( 6 rounds but you can go 4 or 8) - not mounted yet. Will investigate their 4 rounder with picatinny rail for my SMD 12 -if I can get enough accuracy gain from a red dot to justify it.

john, you love what? your TacStar, or Mesa??
i presume you're referring to the TSSS...?

The TacStar works fine. Stayed in place and shells never slipped out from recoil. I didn't like how it snagged on things and rode against my body when slung. Stopped using it.

my vote is the Mesa Tac sureshell holder.. its a really nice shellholder, well designed. the nice feature about it over the tacstar model is that its cutout where the serial number is so even when installed, its fully visable

good luck.

oops wasn't too clear was I? yep I was referring to the Mesa. Tacstar works OK too. but yes the serial # cutout on the Mesa is great for those moments with the firearms Nazis or when you're trying to find out which reg certificate goes with which gun. The tiny screws on the Tacstar need a drop of loctite in my view if only because they'd be impossible to find if they drop off.

IMHO this is a HUGE selling feature for me as I can imagine what would happen at a roadside checkpoint while coming back from a hunting trip...not able to read serial number, and forgot your allen keys, end of hunting trip...

Also I didn't like how my tac star grabbed things either.

Someone PM me who sells Mesa in Canada.

PS Mesa is ###y. :D

yea, i'd hate to be in the bush, and have a CO officer check my gun, only to tell me that i have to take the SS off... only to have left the allan keys at home!!!! Mesa appears to be the better product and the one i will purchase?
how do i get one locally (Vancouver)??

Love the MESA here too! If you have the coin it's a no-brainer, but the serial # was in a different place 30 years ago...

Order directly from them, it worked for me.

As for price PAZZO, can't remember exactly as that was some time ago, it was a bit pricey but I have no regrets... I wouldn't put anything else on my guns.

Sorry for the poor picture, but the scattergun has the Mesa saddle with picatiny and shell carrier.

I haven't any info on the Tacstar, but, I'll say I do like the Mesa!

Calum, I'll shoot you a pm on the Mesa gear.
