For over 20 years I sent my new PR clients / shooters/ customers/newbies smack into a price point that allowed them to get into the game with a minimum of expenditure and still have a decent time at Base Borden’s (Ontario) Mons Range or Connaught’s Charlie Range and more recently in the past 7 years; Garrison Petawawa’s Bravo Range.

That price point scope was the Bushnell Elite 3200 10 x - 40mm Mildot SFP scope. Sure it wasn’t any special FFP nor did it have side parallax adjustment ability but for the $200 , that scope got many people started. Kinda reminds me of the ubiquitous Honda CB350 from the seventies.

Many people got their start with this scope and as time or experience or skill set or budget or familiarity move forward, they were able to upgrade to other brands/ makes/ models / price points/ ring diameters, etc.

I would often advise my crew that this scope can ALWAYS be relegated to back up rig status or a rimfire trainer or WHY (what have you) purposes.

Well my 20 year old 3200 Elite 10x seemed to give up the ghost. This summer I mounted it on my Savage Rascal Junior Program trainer for my kids to ring steel at 100 yards. For some reason the POI was over on the left by a foot….we continued to dial the windage to bring the POI further to the right. We maxed out the travel and it still impacted to the left.

I sent that scope into Bushnell after downloading their accompanying paperwork from the website. I filled in the world order paperwork and sent the scope to Vaughn, ON Warranty Depot. That scope was back in a month and their crew had it repaired according to the follow up paperwork/receipt.

I reserved my Savage Rascal JR Program shooter (EGW Picatinny rail, and ARMS 22 Throw Lever LOW Steel Tac Rings with polymer ring reducers to 1” for you gear guys). The scope zeroed initially but after trying/testing different brands of .22 ammunition at 50 yards, I had what some Lee Enfield Jungle Carbine shooters would call , “Wandering Zero”.

Now my reticle did not move anywhere and the POI was Wayyyyy the fornication to the left at the dirt backstop. Time to send it back…..

Look what I received a week later…. The metamorphosis…..

Oh yeah, shameless plug for Marten Van R over at MDT because he takes good care of my Junior Program as well as the ORPS/CRPS programs here in Canada.

It’s a Bushy Nitro scope. I had to keep digging further into the details. I was hoping it was FFP and it was (just needed my reading glasses since I’m getting older) and it was issued in MRad version just for me. Darn those folks at the Warranty shops in Vaughn, ON aren’t kidding around. I’m super impressed. Okay, so it’s a 3x-12x. But it does come in 30mm tube and the Butler Creek scope covers are a fabulous touch.

I guess Bushy has discontinued that Japan 10x - 40mm Mildot model from the nineties (Life was simpler back then). And the accompanying receipt said this was the replacement. Take it or leave it…. Twist my rubber arm, I replied. Okay, okay, that’s my weak attempt at humour with some fiction on my end.

As many of you will/might/may / might not know , I’m a brand ambassador for a few optics labels and ironically, Bushnell ain’t one of them. I’m a mere Bushnell fanboy because of their reliable warranty program (always treated me well) and I have used their Vaughn, ON shop a few times now.

I such a fanboy I even mounted my spare HDMR2 on my coyote rig….. only the best for the local ‘yotes’….

Anyways, for my clients reading this post, I’m hoping your decades old Bushy Elite 3200 10x Mildot scopes are still giving you good service, after all the Barrett Rifle makers provided these Bushy 10x Mildot scopes with their .50 caliber rigs right from the factory ; back then. Not sure what they are doing these days.

This Nitro FFP 3-12 will be mounted on my .22 Savage Rascal soon for my 6 year olds to ring steel this coming spring JR Program sessions. I hope this post can shed some light on what happens when you send in a Bushnell scope for repair and it’s out of production.

Well I do have to say, I’m gonna miss their Japan made glass (10x Mildot) but even if this Nitro isn’t made in Japan at least it’s got a pile of features that I can show case to my parents and kids during out weekly practice sessions. :)

Many thanks to my sponsors for their senses of humour (to put up with my stale jokes) and support over the years!

Be kind since it costs nothing to send out there…. And among us PR/PRS shooters; we are experts in “Sending it!”

Peace Be The Journey! Happy new year , all….. better times ahead!!

Cheers, Barney

With so many complaints online its great to hear from people who have good experiences and helpful people to recommend. They deserve the shout outs and the extra business it might bring them.

Thanks for speaking out.

It's always good to hear about manufacturers stepping up to the plate to support youth programs. I'm a Bushnell fan too, as they have never failed me.

I was responsible for allowing my heavy barrel rifle, equipped with a Bushnell Tactical Elite 5-15x fall out of a rack and it landed on the scope. It bent the scope tube. I contacted Bushnell, admitted what had happened and they asked me to send it in. I had no expectations of a repair or a warranty claim as it was me that was at fault, for which I shall forever feel shame. I was so impressed when Bushnell contacted me and offered to replace the bent scope at their factory price which was substantially less than I could have replaced it at a retail store. For that reason, they will always be my goto for scopes.

I think that upgrade is a nod to your stature in the shooting community...

I've had similar results with a replacement, not quite the same upgrade, but in the end I was a happy guy.

I've got one of those as well, the 5-15x40, made in Japan. Excellent scope, has been used in the field for coyotes and at the range on paper. It's one of those scopes that I think about replacing, until I use it again and realize it's actually a really sweet scope aside from the adjustable objective bell. If they offered to replace it with a side-parallax FFP Nitro though... I mean the Nitros are pretty good. I'd take it over a Diamondback Tactical or something, for sure.

I was a little miffed at Bushnell for replacing a 2.5-10x42 4200 Elite with a Nitro...until I used it. It's been on everything from 223 up to 338 Win Mag and works very well.
Cheers Barney, you are quite the ambassador and diplomat for our sport.

Thanks for the kind words. They mean a great deal to me!

Right now this Bushy Nitro 3-12 x is sitting on my .22-250 coyote rig. It’s a fitting use for the scope and .22-250 Remmy M700

Cheers, Barney

Ps: Peace Be The Journey!

The Bushy 10x was my first ever scope on a bolt rifle. I have sung it’s praises to anyone who cared to listen. The HDMR does sit on my competition MWS (in purgatory of course). Bushnell has always served me well.

I have never really been fond of the x10.
Always thought it was silly to have a mil reticle and moa turrets.

I had bought a used one for $150, Turns out it didn't track. Oh well, took it in for warranty and they gave me a new one. Got it mounted and guess what; it was fubar out of the box and wouldn't track either.
Needless to say i was 100% the opposite of thrilled.
Took it in and expressed my extreme displeasure, and commented (in passing) how it definitely was not in the same category as my new DMR2.
The warranty guy said: "i don't have any more x10 in stock......but let me give you a call tomorrow and see what i can do"
I was expecting to have to chase him but sure enough, the next day he called me bright and early and said: "i can order you in a new x10......OR......if you pay $1000 i can upgrade you to a DMR2".
I think we can all guess how the rest of this story went ;)

Malice:

Was that the HDMR2 I saw mounted on your rig while on the firing line at Garrison Petawawa PR match ? :)

I’ve got 2 of the HDMR2 scopes with H59 reticles and I love them. Better than I can hold my rig, that’s for sure!!

Cheers, Barney

Close, it's just the DMR2 (with the G2 reticle).
My partner was using my new rifle and it has the XRS3 (6-36x56 with G4P reticle).........I REALLY like this scope

Glad to see that Bushnell still takes care of its customers. I haven't dealt with them since leaving Ontario, but back when I lived in the Scarborough area I had several dealings with them...I had lots of their products...and the service was outstanding.

I remember one particular instance when I had an old Simmons scope, not even one of their top models, but a cheapo 2.5x fixed shotgun scope which had survived something like 20 years of heavy use on slug shotguns, big-bore rifles, you name it...but finally went out of focus. The service centre guy (I lived close enough to easily visit in person) took it into the back, came back out and told me they had no more parts or new units in stock, and gave me a lovely new Legend variable power shotgun scope in replacement. No waiting, no paperwork questions, nothing; here you go, sir, have a nice day.

Better service, on that occasion and others, than I ever got from Leupold. I'm a fan of both brands, but...Bushnell has, hands down, the best customer service and customer satisfaction policies I have ever encountered.

Vortex? "It's no good, sir? No problem, here's another one. What, this one failed too? No problem, here's another. What, back again? No problem, here's another. Oh, hey, good to see you again, here's another"...and so on...good service, but...

Nikon? "Yes, your binoculars need a XYZ replaced; that'll be $60. Oh, now they need the ABC adjusted; that'll be $60. What's it doing? Okay, we'll look at it...$60 please".:bangHead:

well Barney i will what will happen to me as i got a lovely old 4200 doa 3-9x40 that failed on me at the range and have now the power ring stuck between 8 and 9 .. so ill keep you posted.

It’s been a while since I visited this thread. Here’s a more recent picture of this Nitro 3-12-44 mm scope on the coyote rig (that has never shot a coyote, and my wife don’t mind at all) LOL

Now I hope the CGN software doesn’t turn this photo on the side….

I hope the rest of you never have trouble with yer optics, but when you do; here’s hoping its not a bumpy ride!!

All the Best!!
