So many of you have such large quantities of 1xF brass it started me wondering how you managed to collect it? Where I live there are no ranges to go gather it up but one, and there is never a single piece left behind, sometimes boxes in the trash.

The very few people I know that save their brass for me shoot less than a box every two years, and it's almost always federal "ugh"...

Tonight I am sitting here cleaning and sorting my very limited supply of -06 brass and thought to myself "why after 30 years do I have so little brass?"

Guess I am stuck with buying it online since the days of old are gone where there was at least local sources for new brass, where there is now none.

So, the question is, where do you fellas get your brass hoards from?

Ar15 brass catcher keeps my brass safe from other reloaders. Pistol wise the range I go to is public and has more walk in non licensed shooters so I usually walk out with more then I came, but not much more.

I have been buying Nosler brass of late just because it's available. Often I buy factory rolled and use it up just for the brass!! R-P, Win, Hornady's or Nosler that is, I skip right over Federal even though it shoots fairly well.

I buy once fired military Lake City brass and pick up what Lake City brass I find at the range. This type once fired or range pickup brass is good enough for my AR15 rifles. But for my bolt action rifles brass uniformity is needed for higher grade accuracy, so for this I buy large quantities of new brass.

Bottom line, you can never get the uniform quantities of brass you need looking for brass at the range. And to me reloading is making the most accurate ammunition I can make and you can't do this with brass scrounged from the range a few pieces at a time.

gun shows and ranges, some guys just give it to me and sometimes I just find it lying around. so far this year out hunting I have found well over 500 pieces of reloadable brass and almost a full flat worth of 12 gauge AA halls, and everytime I bring this stuff home I ask myself why when I just dump it into another 5 gallon bucket out in the garage lol......it's a fricken disease

Check your inbox, C. Dave.

that right there is how it is done, one man cleaning up and giving stuff he either has to much of or no use for and passing it down the line........welcome to the brotherhood

Inbox checked, PM replied. Dave just made my day... wow. A generous offer that I will only accept if I can either pay it back, or pay it forward! Although that wasn't the intent of this thread. BTW, what do you offer to a man that has three of everything you might have in excess? Lol.

Just finished weighing the federal brass I have collected in -06, weighs from 178 grains to 202 grains, wow.... quality control over time isn't on their to do list. 18 pcs 1xF Nosler weighs from 180.5 to 182.5, remove the high and the low and it has a 1.6 grain spread.

13 Win to weigh, 3 imperial, and 18 R-P lol.

Wish I had been collecting -06 brass all these years, my father did, but he moved on to a happier place and all his belongings got sold or tossed in the trash :(

the only rifle calibre i get is .223 from the floor at my range..
i get lots of 9mm, .40SW and .45ACP from the range as well since most people dont reload and there are tons of walk-ins.

Yep.... that's how I used to do it, I have more brass than I can ever use, until I responded to someone on here who shall remain nameless. The individual was looking for 200 pcs of .308 brass, so I said pay for the shipping and it's yours. I shipped it and had to wait 3 months and several PM's later....I finally said just keep it.....NO more

Sadly, the old axiom rings true: No good deed, goes unpunished.
At least you did a nice thing. Good on ya.

Now that's too bad, sorry that happened to you. Myself, I wouldn't let one bad apple ruin it for me or anyone else. I have helped many people in all aspects of life. I have learned the reward is the act itself. I will just keep plugging away as best I can.

I won't let Eagleye's deed go without reward, if he has no need or desire for one, then I will pay it forward!!

Several of my friends who shoot at members-only ranges collect very little brass compared to what I often get. If someone is a member at a gun range, they are probably a somewhat regular shooter and are much more likely to be a reloader as well. I'm a member at a range that is open to the public on weekends (for a walk-on fee) and all the casual shooters and hunters show up and few if any of them are reloaders. I pretty commonly come home from a visit with anywhere from 1/2 to 2 litres of brass, mixed 1F pistol and rifle. Then it's just tumble and sort. Stuff I don't reload gets sorted and gifted to people who do reload it; often in trade for brass I do use. Stuff that is too damaged to reload or turns out to be berdan primed brass goes in the scrap bin (banana'ed .303B cases, CBC headstamped 7.62NATO cases, etc.).

The range is also sometimes rented to the Ottawa police, OPP, RCMP, CBSA, MNR, and sometimes the military. They've all contributed many 9mm, .223, 5.56, 7.62, .338 Lapua, 12ga hulls, and even some brass 7.62x39 cases. Listening to suppressed full auto MP5's is pretty interesting too. The suppressed .338 Lapua's are the strangest sounding though. Also fairly common to find simmunitions, fired 40mm training round cases, machine gun belt links, and training grenade pins.

Checked the PO box today and found an incredibly well wrapped box containing 104 Winchester 30-06 1xF brass. Eagleye (Dave) does humanity credit. We are blessed to have him here as a member.

I have already gifted another member with a new set of RCBS carbide 44 mag dies, and will attempt to pay it forward to another member in need.

Thank you Dave for your generosity. PM sent

Regards, Bill
