So here the thing there are more than a few 6,5 metric calibers to choose from . I don't hand load , so off the shelf ammo only for me . The creedmore as far as I can see are the most popular and available . The only one that is not of interest are BR ( bench rest) . I can find the older rifles and ammo just want to find a direction to start . Want something fun and not overly expensive to shoot . Have tried most of the popular rifle, pistol ,black powder calibers and the 6,5 metrics have caught my interest . I believe a bolt actions will be the easiest to find at reasonable prices so for now no semiautomatics ( unless I realy get hooked !) . No I have never had a 243 caliber rifle ,is it something I should be considering as well ? Any help will be appreciated thanks

6.5x55 has been popular in this country for decades, the ammo pipeline is well established. Creedmore is popular now and may or may not stay that way, but 6.5x55 is here to stay.

Can't go wrong with the 6.5x55 forsure . The 6.5 creedmore is great as well. If u eventually want a semi auto go for the creedmoor. I would probably go with whichever your local store has in-stock for ammo.

I would start reloading. Also consider the 260 Rem, they are ballistic twins. - dan

IM in the same boat here and what I was wondering, was/can the 260 with 143's or 147's still fit in most mags? I know that the 260 will take up a bit more room then the 6.5x47 and 6.5CM.

thx

Depends on your rifle. Generally, short action rifles will accommodate 243/260/7mm-08/308/338 Fed/ and 358 to 2.8 inches. There's some wiggle room, but not much. You can build them longer, I built a LW Rem 600 in 284 Win with the mag opened up to 3.15". Gives you quite a bit more boiler room, but you also have to make sure your rifle is throated that way and pay close attention to COAL. Wyatt used to make extended mag boxes. You can do it yourself if you're a decent hand with a welder. Low heat better. - dan

Looks like I have a good 3" and from my research, that looks right around what they take up. It would be a new barrel, so it will be made to fit. thanks

Sorry for the lil derail bm
